How Much Is That Doggie In The Window?
October 30th, 2007 12:51 PM

Your dog may cost you more than you think.  Insurance companies have been denying policies based on the type of dog you own and this is just one example why.

My brother was walking home from church with his son when a pit-bull broke free from the owner's leash in their yard and came out to the sidewalk and lunged at my nephew and bit him.  As my brother was holding him in the middle of the street and trying to fend off the dog, the owner finally was able to control the dog.  The dog was surrendered to animal control the following afternoon and will be destroyed after a 10 day "watching" period to determine that it doesn't have rabies.  My nephew will be recover physically, but the fear of dogs will take a long time to recover from.

In August a closing on one of my listings was delayed because the buyer owned 2 pit-bulls.  They were able to get insurance with Citizens of Florida at a much higher rate (several hundred dollars) because their dogs along with Doberman Pinchers, Chows and German Shepards have claim histories.

Although I don't have a dog (I'm currently owned by two cats), I'm looking forward to having one (or two) in the future.  Keep in mind that insurers have to consider the risk involved with owning dogs with a "history" of attack.

Lake Mary Farmer's Market Set To Debut November 10th
October 28th, 2007 8:59 PM
The City of Lake Mary is set to debut their deeply anticipated Farmer's Market on Saturday, November 10th.  I've attended the highly regarded Winter Park Farmer's Market for years and I am really looking forward to this new venue.

I've always found the "freshest" fruits and vegetables are those that come from local growers. There is nothing better than a fresh picked tomato sliced up with a dash of salt and pepper.

The Farmers Market will be located at Lake Mary City Hall on Lake Mary Blvd., please click here for directions.
